Muggy, voggy, rainy weather expected through Saturday

A cold front moving over the islands from the northwest is expected to bring rain to the state starting Thursday. Another weather system near the Big Island was bringing more rain to Hawaii island and Maui County Thursday morning.

Humid and hazy conditions with the chance of rain are in the forecast for Thursday for Oahu and Kauai, while Maui County and the Big Island were seeing a mix of rain, vog and sun Thursday morning.

Kona winds from the south are expected to bring moist tropical air and volcanic haze over the islands starting Thursday. The vog will be mostly over Maui County and the Big island, but could spread to Oahu through Friday.

A cold front moving down from the northwest is expected to move over the islands and bringing an increased chance of rain through Saturday.

Rains were already falling over Maui County and the Big Island Thursday morning because of another weather system southeast of Kailua-Kona.

The forecast for Honolulu and south shores of Oahu calls for Kona winds starting late Thursday morning, partly cloudy conditions with scattered showers and a 50 percent chance of rain through Thursday night. Showers are likely after midnight into Friday, when there is a 70 percent chance of rain.

Friday’s weather should be mostly cloudy with showers likely in the morning and heavy rain possible in the afternoon.

The weather service estimates a 50 percent chance of scattered showers Friday night and Saturday, with light winds.

Cooler, drier weather is expected starting Sunday, after the front moves east of the state.
