Wind shift could bring vog on Thanksgiving Day; rain possible this weekend
Southerly winds are likely to blow volcanic haze over Oahu on Thanksgiving Day, National Weather Service forecasters say. The winds are changing as a cold front that could bring heavy rain this weekend approaches the islands from the northwest.
The northeast trade winds will continue until sometime Thursday afternoon, when they will shift to southerly winds, bringing hazy skies and the chance of showers.
The cold front that’s causing the wind shift is expected to move over Kauai Friday and could bring rain to Oahu on Saturday.
The National Weather Service says there’s a 50 percent chance of rain in Honolulu Friday night and a 70 percent chance of rain Saturday and Sunday. Locally heavy rainfall, even thunder storms are possible.
The volcanic haze could stick around through the weekend.
