Driver involved in fatal traffic crash on Kauai arrested
A 36-year-old man who drove the Ford Pickup truck involved in a fatal three-vehicle crash on Kauai Saturday morning was arrested, police said.
Joseph Frye of Koloa was arrested for criminal property damage, reckless endangering, attempted assault, reckless driving, and manslaughter. He has been released pending investigation.
Around 10 a.m., Frye was traveling eastbound on Kaumualii Highway near Halfway Bridge when he attempted to overtake a Ford Mustang using the east shoulder lane. Frye clipped the Mustang’s front, losing control of his truck and crossed the center lane and broadsided a Chevy sedan.
The driver of the Chevy sedan was transported to Wilcox Hospital, where he died.
The driver of the Ford Mustang, a 27-year-old Koloa woman, did not need medical attention.
Frye was taken to the hospital after the incident but was released later that afternoon.
