Chicken wings are on their way to the Las Vegas Strip, but not just any chicken wings. They’re the hot wings that made Buffalo famous. On the heels of the opening of a White Castle hamburger outlet next door at Casino Royale earlier this year, the famous Anchor Bar chicken wings will open its first western location at the Venetian.
Anchor Bar is given credit for creating the famous hot sauce for its wings more than 50 years ago and the originating city became the dish’s namesake as the recipe was copied in bars and restaurants across the country.
Ironically, the restaurant Anchor Bar is replacing is another regional-brand icon, Nathan’s Hot Dogs.
Hooters sold: Hooters Casino has been sold to Trinity Hotel Investors LLC for a reported $70 million. Plans for the resort have yet to be announced, although it’s been confirmed the Hooters restaurant will remain.
Setting the bar: There’s an all-out bar rescue going on at Aria. City Bar, Haze, Lift Bar, Gold Nightclub & Lounge, and now the Deuce Lounge have all either gotten or are about to receive major remodels. The nightclub powerhouse Hakkasan, which now controls the Deuce, says it will invest upward of $1.2 million on that bar’s revamp.
Downtown sushi: A dedicated sushi house called Bocho has opened on 6th Street downtown. There’s a happy hour from 3 to 6 p.m. daily, with everything 30 percent off, and an all-you-can-eat option for $25.99 for lunch and $29.99 for dinner.
Question: A friend was in town specifically to see Mariah Carey and the show was canceled. He got a full refund, but how often does that happen?
Answer: More often than you’d think for the big-name stars. In a production show there are stand-ins, but there’s no way to replace Mariah, Celine, and the like when something goes wrong. The only thing you can do is know going in that it can happen, and have a second choice in mind.
