Officer hit with TRO
The commander of the Kaneohe District of the Honolulu Police Department has lost his police powers after a temporary restraining order was filed against him.
HPD spokeswoman Michelle Yu said Thursday a TRO was served on Maj. Ryan Borges.
Hawaii News Now reported Borges’ daughter’s boyfriend filed the TRO because Borges has been allegedly threatening him since December.
Borges was part of a prison ministry team for New Hope Christian Fellowship. He has 31 years of service and was promoted to the rank of major in January.

Man arrested over Mace can
A 62-year-old Lihue man was arrested Tuesday afternoon on suspicion of third-degree assault in connection with a noxious-odor incident that forced the evacuation of the Lihue Walmart last month and caused several customers to become ill.
The suspect was arrested Tuesday at a senior housing complex in Lihue. He was released from the police cellblock after posting $1,000 bail.
The incident occurred at about 11 a.m. March 30, and according to police, 10 people fell ill and several of the victims were hospitalized. The Kauai Fire Department Hazmat crew and a Department of Health representative responded to the scene and assisted in the evacuation of the store.
The store was reopened about three hours later when it was deemed safe.
The Fire Department turned over the investigation to police, who found that a canister of Mace had been set off near the entrance of the store.
