Mira Han was awarded the Hawaii State Women’s Golf Association Match Play Championship on Friday when her opponent pulled out of the final.
Han was slated to play Adeline Show in the championship match at Oahu Country Club. HSWGA president Gwen Omori said Show informed tournament officials she would forfeit before Friday’s scheduled 7 a.m. match, giving Han the title.
Han, who reported to OCC prepared to play on Friday morning, won three matches in two days to advance to the final and added the match-play title to her two HSWGA Senior Championships. She won the second last September with a 77 at Leilehua Golf Course.
Han was the second seed in the 16-player bracket and defeated Kasandra Shriver 4 and 2 in the first round on Wednesday. She got past Judy Tonda 3 and 1 in the first of two matches on Thursday and advanced to the final with a 5-and-4 win over Young Leskovec in the afternoon.
Show was the ninth seed and edged top seeded Fe Clock in 20 holes in the quarterfinals and BB Harvey 1 up in the semifinals.
The HSWGA required that participants be dues-paying members of HSWGA clubs this year and player handicaps were factored into the scoring for the first time.
