Police arrest man in sex assault case
Police arrested a 49-year-old man after he allegedly sexually assaulted a 61-year-old woman over the weekend. The assault occurred between 9 p.m. Saturday and 7:50 a.m. Sunday.
The victim told police that the suspect, of no local address, entered her Ala Moana-area apartment without her permission.
The man was arrested Sunday on suspicion of first-degree sexual assault and released pending investigation.
Maui hunter killed in shooting accident
Maui police are investigating the shooting death of a 62-year-old Kula man Sunday.
Theodore Cabos Jr. was hunting with his family at Haleakala Ranch when he was shot in the head, police said. The 11:36 a.m. incident apparently was the result of the accidental discharge of a gun.
Cabos was pronounced dead at the scene. A preliminary investigation revealed no evidence of foul play, police said.
Moped rider dies of crash injuries
A 54-year-old Kihei man injured when his moped collided with a pickup truck has died, Maui police said.
Nicholas Webb was traveling south on South Kihei Road on Oct. 25 when he apparently lost control of his moped, crossed the centerline and collided with the truck traveling in the opposite direction. The driver of the truck, a 36-year-old man from Haiku, was not injured.
Webb died Nov. 18.
