The University of Hawaii will debut an "H-Zone" logo wear store at Ward Centre on July 1 following unanimous approval of a three-year term sheet Thursday by the system’s Board of Regents.
In addition to the 1,465-square-foot store in the Howard Hughes Corp. property, UH said it will expand the use of the former Rainbowtique at the Stan Sheriff Center and enhance merchandising at Les Murakami Stadium and the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.
UH will also offer merchandise online at H-Zoneonline.com.
UH’s Campus Services, which operates Rainbowtiques in the Waikiki Marriott, Ward Centre and Stan Sheriff Center, will cease athletic logo wear operations by June 30 in all but the UH Manoa bookstore.
Athletic director Ben Jay said he expects to see a $500,000 profit from the first year of the "H-Zone" venture.
Previously, UH had received 92 percent of the licensing revenue from athletic-related logo wear but none of the profits from actual sales, officials said.
