Arkansas second baseman Rick Nomura (Punahou ’12) drove in one of 18 runs by the Razorbacks in an 18-4 victory over Missouri State on Friday in Game 1 of a Super Regional series at Baum Stadium in Fayetteville, Ark.
The Razorbacks (39-22)?pounded out 18 hits and scored in five consecutive innings to blow away the Bears (48-11).
Nomura was 1-for-6. Arkansas needs one win in the next two games to advance to the College World Series for the first time since 2012.
In other Super Regional games on Friday:
>> At Charlottesville, Va., Kevin Doherty’s three-run double capped a five-run eighth inning and Virginia beat Maryland 5-3.
Doherty’s hit came after the Terrapins walked Joe McCarthy intentionally. The blast was almost caught at the wall by Terps center fielder LaMonte Wade, but it went off his glove as the bases cleared.
>> At Gainesville, Fla., JJ Schwarz hit his 16th home run — one shy of tying Florida’s freshman record — and the Gators beat Florida State 13-5.
>> At Coral Gables, Fla., Jacob Heyward hit a
two-run single to highlight
a three-run second inning, and Miami topped Virginia Commonwealth 3-2.
