‘De Lima’s De Clips" — a DVD celebrating Frank De Lima’s 40 years of comedy shows in Hawaii — boasts a cover image of a moon-faced De Lima eclipsing the sun. It’s produced on a small budget but boasts a bounty of outrageous nuggets.
That De Lima has been orbiting the laughs universe for four decades is cause for celebration, though the montage of video sketches in the DVD are largely from the second half of his zany career. While there’s not a shred of "Lucille," his biggest parody, the DVD arrives perfectly timed to the Christmas buying and giving season. The comedian ties in the yuletide, recalling why he picked "Sleigh Bells" for his "Filipino Christmas" shtick.
Of course, De Lima also is the centerpiece of TheCAB commercials on TV and in print. The taxi company is not a DVD sponsor, yet the commercials’ bewigged and muumuu’d tutus (and uncles in more recent spots) have emerged as regular characters in his comedic galaxy.
For a jolt of De Lima in the flesh — yes, he’ll do "Filipino Christmas" — he fronts Na Kolohe (David Kauahikaua and Robert Nishida) in holiday concerts at noon (brunch seating from 10 a.m.) and 7:30 p.m. (dinner seating from 5:30 p.m.) Saturday at Pagoda’s C’est Si Bon. Tickets: $55 brunch, $60 dinner, at 948-8370. …
