Not one, but two new shopping malls are on their way to Las Vegas casinos with Strip addresses.
The Grand Bazaar at Bally’s will host more than 150 stores in the setting of a 21st-century bazaar. The mall will be built on about two acres fronting the casino and is expected to open in fall 2014.
Farther south, the Tropicana is transforming its entire frontage into a giant two-story shopping and retail complex. While few details have been released, groundbreaking on the $100 million project is scheduled for the first half of 2014.
These developments join the Linq from Caesars Entertainment, the Park from MGM Mirage, and the mall under construction at TI in the Strip’s 2014 rush to retail.
» Candy wall: M&M’s World Las Vegas, on the Strip just north of MGM Grand, has opened what it says is the "world’s largest candy wall." The 62-foot-wide wall is made of 125 tubes of M&M’s, comprising 22 varieties and 11 flavors.
» Another mega-hit: A Florida man hit Megabucks at the MGM Grand for $10.3 million. This is the second Megabucks jackpot at MGM in a month.
» Holiday drinks: There’s still time to get in on a couple of good holiday drinking deals. Todd English Pub is running the "12 Beers of Christmas" with a designated $1 beer daily, while all drinks are $2 at all bars at the Gold Coast and South Point until Dec. 24.
QUESTION: Last week you wrote that the giant observation wheel would open in early 2014. Is that the case for all of Linq?
ANSWER: Linq is the name of the center-Strip restaurant, bar and retail area that also includes the wheel. The part of Linq nearest the Strip will open Friday. It will include a Starbucks, the restaurants Chayo and Haute Doggery, and the new O’Shea’s, replacing the former casino of the same name. The rest of the project, including the wheel and the massive Brooklyn Bowl, are scheduled to open in March.
