It didn’t take long for ex-Hawaii standout Isaac Fotu to find a new home.
The All-Big West Conference forward has signed with CAI Zaragoza in the top tier of Spanish basketball, Liga ACB, multiple international basketball outlets reported Tuesday.
Fotu, who announced his intention to go professional last week Monday amid uncertainty about his future at Hawaii, reached a three-year agreement for an undisclosed amount of money with Zaragoza, it was reported. Fotu retweeted reports of his destination on his Twitter account.
It was revealed last month the 21-year-old New Zealander was deemed ineligible at UH amid an NCAA investigation of Gib Arnold’s program. Arnold and assistant coach Brandyn Akana were fired on Oct. 28 for undisclosed reasons.
Fotu was in California in the days after his departure from Manoa. He did not immediately respond to a request for comment with the Star-Advertiser on Tuesday.
Zaragoza has competed in Liga ACB for five seasons since advancing from a lower-tiered league, and is off to a 3-3 start this year.
Fotu appeared in several games in Spain while representing New Zealand in the FIBA World Cup in late August and early September. He averaged 9.5 points and 4.5 rebounds off the bench.
