Woman sitting on highway dies after car hits her
A car struck and fatally injured a woman who was sitting on Highway 11 in South Kona on Tuesday night, Hawaii County police said.
The woman appeared to be intoxicated, police said.
She was identified as Jasmin K. Robertson, 30, of Honaunau.
Police said Robertson was sitting in the northbound lane near the 107-mile marker when she was hit by a BMW sedan driven by a 50-year-old Captain Cook man at about 6:30 p.m.
The driver was not injured.
Fire Department rescue personnel took Robertson to Kona Community Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 7:15 p.m.
Traffic Enforcement Unit officers ordered an autopsy.

The traffic fatality was the 36th on Hawaii island this year, compared with 18 at the same time last year.
Driver injured in mo-ped crash succumbs
A Kapaa man has died of injuries sustained in a mo-ped crash last week, Kauai County reported.
Shane Bender, 52, died Oct. 25 at the Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu, the county said Tuesday in a news release.
Bender was injured Oct. 24 when he lost control of his mo-ped and crashed near the junction of Hauaala and Kawaihau roads just before midnight.
He was not wearing a helmet, the county said.
Bender was taken to Wilcox Memorial Hospital in critical condition and later transferred to Queen’s.
It was the seventh traffic fatality on Kauai this year, the county said.
