Kapolei’s Louis Smolka has been added to the UFC 189 pay-per-view card on July 11 in a flyweight bout against Irishman Neil Seery, the UFC has confirmed.
Smolka will fight a day before fellow Hawaii Elite MMA training partner Russell Doane faces Jerrod Sanders at the TUF Finale 21 event in the same MGM Grand Garden Arena.
Smolka (8-1, 2-1 UFC) is coming off a third-round finish of Richie Vaculik last November in a fight he took on 11 days’ notice.
His only UFC loss was by a split decision.
Seery (15-10) has won two consecutive UFC fights since losing his debut to Brad Pickett last May. He has gone the distance all three times.
» Kailua’s Travis Browne weighed in at 241 pounds on Friday for his heavyweight fight against Andrei Arlovski on the main card of UFC 187 on Saturday night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
Browne (17-2-1, 8-2-1 UFC) is ranked No. 3 at heavyweight and is coming off a first-round TKO of Brendan Schaub in December.
Arlovski (23-10, 12-4), who weighed in at 241 pounds, held the UFC heavyweight title in 2005 and ’06. He knocked out Ray Lopez in August 2011 in a ProElite event at the Blaisdell Arena.
Tynanes and Lee victorious
Ewa Beach’s Lowen Tynanes remained undefeated as a professional with a unanimous decision over Kuat Khamitov on the main card of "One: Warrior’s Quest" held early Friday morning Hawaii time in Singapore.
The 24-year-old Tynanes improved to 7-0 at lightweight and won all three rounds of the judges scorecards.
Earlier, Waipahu’s Angela Lee made her professional debut with a first-round submission victory over Aya Saied Saber.
Lee scored a takedown and finished the fight at the 1:43 mark with an armbar.
