Icon for sure, but a world wonder?
Get ready to click and vote! Diamond Head is a nominee … for the "8th Wonder of the World."
Uh, really? We appreciate the volcanic cone’s designation as a state monument and the gorgeous panoramic views from its top — so iconic, maybe, but a world wonder?
More investigation reveals that our Diamond Head is but one of more than 200 nominees coveting "8th Wonder of the World" status, a contest put on by travel-research website, www.virtualtourist.com, which is affiliated with TripAdvisor.
Ah, marketing — now it all makes sense, since some of the nominees are true head-scratchers, such as an elevator, some bridges, sculptures, bays, museums and a zoo. If nothing else, though, it’s fun getting ideas for the next family vacation.
Voting for the contest runs through Sept. 30. Will Diamond Head make the Top 10? We wonder.
There goes Tokyo, go, go, Godzilla
If you thought geckos were bad, wait till Godzilla gets here.
Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures are planning to make yet another movie featuring the giant lizard — there’ve been about 30 since 1954 — with this one to feature Hawaii as one of its backdrops.
We don’t know the actual plot of the new movie, but it’s likely that many isle residents will get paid to be screaming victims trying to escape the creature’s rampage through Honolulu’s urban core, or wherever.
Maybe the poor thing will just want to kick back on the beach and have a cool drink.
By the way, we don’t think geckos are bad. But Godzilla? Maybe.
