Help stamp out hunger via your mailbox
Even in the best of times in our society, people go hungry. And while Hawaii’s economy is getting better, there are many people who can’t afford to eat.
Today, May 11, the U.S. Postal Service is doing its bit to make it easy for you to help, via its annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive. You’ve likely already received a blue plastic bag, left by your mail carrier. Well, today’s the day to fill that bag with nonperishable food items, then place it by your mailbox for postal pick-up. All the donations will go to local food banks. So simple — so do your bit.
Here’s a way to complete Mother’s Day
It’s not your classic Mother’s Day activity, but hear us out: On Sunday, the city is planning its Hele On Kaka‘ako celebration, which starts with a 5K run at 10 a.m.
But running is not the only form of transportation being showcased. Hele On is giving people a look at what the oft-heard phrase "complete streets" would look like. Part of Cooke Street will be transformed into something that accommodates cars, pedestrians and cyclists in safety. Isn’t that what moms all want, for us to be safe?
