Wie 1 shot off lead midway through LPGA Lotte
Michelle Wie of Honolulu fashioned a second-round 5-under par 67 on Thursday to close within one stroke of the lead at the LPGA Lotte Championship as the second round concluded at Ko Olina Golf Club.
Wie, who made five birdies and no bogeys, trailed only Angela Stanford who shot 64 on Thursday and is at 8-under for the tournament.
“This week, I think I’m trying not to put so much pressure on myself,” said Wie, who was second two weeks ago at the Kraft Nabisco Championship. “I’m trying to go out there and have fun.”
Cristie Kerr, Inbee Park, So Yeon Ryu and Hyo Joo Kim finished the day tied for third at 6-under.
Wie shot 2-under on Wednesday and was tied for fifth after the first round.
Stanford won here in 2009 at the SBS Open at Turtle Bay, outdueling Wie in the final round.
