Pilot uninjured when plane skids
The pilot of a single-engine small plane walked away without injuries after the plane’s landing gear failed Monday morning at Honolulu Airport.
Caroline Sluyter, state Department of Transportation spokeswoman, said a preliminary report indicated that the aircraft’s front landing gear collapsed when the plane landed at 6:30 a.m.
The plane skidded to a stop on its nose but did not catch fire.
The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the incident, which happened on Runway 4-R. The 21-foot Stoddard-Hamilton Glasair III aircraft was towed off the runway at 7:40 a.m.
The pilot was the only person on the aircraft, the FAA said.
Water main break snarls Kalanianaole
Board of Water Supply personnel were expected to work overnight to repair a broken water main, closing three westbound lanes on Kalanianaole Highway, snarling Monday’s afternoon rush-hour traffic to East Honolulu.
The break in the 8-inch main was near the Wailupe Fire Station. Six customers are without water service, according to the board.
Police closed westbound lanes from Kaai to Waa streets. Traffic is being contra-flowed through one eastbound lane.
Police are advising motorists to drive with caution in the area and to take an alternative route if possible.
