All beef and dairy bulls coming into Hawaii or moved between herds here must be tested for bovine trichomoniasis, under a quarantine order Tuesday from the state Department of Agriculture.
Ten infected herds in Hawaii — all but one on Hawaii island — have been detected since the disease was found in bulls in the Kau district in 2011, the department said. Trichomoniasis is a venereal disease that can reduce calf production when cows abort or reabsorb their pregnancies if infected.
