Bail confirmed at $500,000 in stolen credit card case
Trial for a 58-year-old Aina Haina woman who used stolen credit cards to make thousands of dollars in fraudulent purchases at upscale retailers over a six-month period is scheduled for the week of Aug. 3.
Kathleen Watanabe entered a plea of not guilty Thursday to 23 counts of first-degree theft, first-degree identity theft, second-degree theft, second-degree identity theft, fraudulent use of a credit card; and unauthorized possession of confidential personal information.
At her arraignment in Circuit Court, Judge Richard Perkins assigned her trial to Circuit Judge Karen Ahn.
He also confirmed her bail of $500,000. Watanabe is being held at the Oahu Community Correctional Center since she is unable to make bail.
An Oahu Grand Jury indicted Watanabe last week.
The indictment includes counts in first degree identity theft, a class A felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison; first-degree theft, a class B felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison; and multiple counts of second-degree theft, second-degree identity theft, fraudulent use of a credit card; and unauthorized possession of confidential personal information.
