Cyr sixth at PGA Tour First Stage qualifying
Maui’s Sam Cyr has a share of sixth place going into today’s final round of the PGA Tour first stage qualifier at Beaumont, Calif. With rounds of 69-71-73, the two-time NAIA national champion is at 3-under-par 213 and four shots out of first.
The top 18 and ties after today’s final round advance to the second stage next month.
At Florence, S.C., Honolulu’s Tadd Fujikawa fired a third-round 79 Friday and is 70th going into the final round, at 16-over 226. The top 17 advance.
Leilehua graduate Kevin Warrick missed the cut at the Pensacola, Fla., first stage event, which ended Friday. Warrick shot a 5-under 65 Thursday, but closed with a 72 to finish in a tie for 33rd, at 278. The top 18 and ties, at 270, moved on.
No. 8 BYUH sweeps in women’s volleyball
Lauren Hagemeyer had 11 kills and six block assists, Shih Ting Chen had 10 kills and six digs, and Ying Chun Chen had 37 assists and eight digs to help eighth-ranked Brigham Young-Hawaii sweep Academy of Art in a Pacific West Conference women’s volleyball match at Kezar Pavilion in San Francisco on Friday.
The Seasiders (17-2, 12-0 PacWest) beat the Urban Knights (6-16, 4-8) by scores of 25-12, 25-18, 25-19.
Chaminade falls twice in soccer
Dominican scored four second-half goals to storm past Chaminade 5-2 in a Pacific West Conference men’s soccer match at Saint Louis School on Friday.
The Silverswords (2-9-3, 2-7-3 PacWest) jumped to an early 2-0 lead on goals by Keegan Tomita (3rd minute) and Colton Gallt (8th). But the Penguins (8-7, 4-7) roared back with two goals each by Kolby Mitnick (34th, 61st) and Pedro Guevara (49th, 69th) and a goal from Garrett Mitchell (83rd).
» In the women’s match also at Saint Louis, Dominican beat Chaminade 3-0. Lauren Gollnick scored in the seventh minute and Julianna Bratsberg scored in the 64th and 67th minutes to lift the Penguins (7-6-1, 6-4-1). Lauren Ishii made seven saves for Chaminade (0-14, 0-12).
