Big south swell prompts high surf advisory
The National Weather Service issued a high surf advisory for south-facing shores of all islands effective through 6 a.m Thursday.
The south-southwest swell arrived Monday afternoon and will build to advisory levels around noon today, peaking Wednesday, weather officials said.
Surf is expected to reach 5-to-8 feet this afternoon and 8-to-12 feet tonight and Wednesday, forecasters say.
Beachgoers should expect strong breaking waves and rip currents which will make swimming difficult and dangerous. The public is advised to heed all advice from ocean safety officials and exercise caution, officials said.
