Second-seeded Brigham Young-Hawaii used a balanced attack that saw five players with seven kills or more to advance to today’s NCAA II West Regional volleyball championship match in San Bernardino, Calif.
BYU-Hawaii (26-1) got 16 kills from junior All-America hitter Shih Ting "Stella" Chen and nine from junior middle Erh Fang "Ariel" Hsu to sweep third-seeded UC San Diego 25-23, 25-20, 25-22 at Coyote Den.
Freshman hitter Noel Pauga added eight kills and junior setter Ying Chun "Michelle" Chen finished with a double-double (37 assists, 14 digs) as the Seasiders won their 19th straight.

BYU-Hawaii will face top seed and host Cal State San Bernardino in today’s regional final.
The Coyotes (27-5) won their 11th in a row when rallying past Sonoma State — the last team to beat them — 25-17, 25-19, 25-23 in Friday’s second semifinal.
It’s a rematch of last year’s regional final won by the Seasiders 3-0 at Cannon Activities Center.
BYU-Hawaii, which had a season-high 13 service errors in Thursday’s sweep of Alaska Anchorage, cut it down to eight against the Tritons (26-6). The Seasiders had five aces, two by Stella Chen, en route to their 19th straight-sets win of the year.
First-year BYUH coach Mona Ah-Hoy said she was concerned with UCSD’s height coming into the match. Although outblocked 9-6 by the Tritons, the Seasiders were able to neutralize their size with a quicker, diverse attack
Set 1 was the tightest, with the teams trading leads late. At 24-23 Pauga’s kill won it for the Seasiders.
BYUH had 65 digs, with four players in double digits. Besides Michelle Chen’s 14, Kathleen Collette had 12, and Stella Chen and Bry Tatupu-Leopoldo 11.
Caitlin Brenton led UCSD with nine kills. The Tritons hit .134 to the Seasiders’ .222.
The winner of today’s match moves on to the NCAA D-II elite eight in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on Dec. 12-14.
