One person died at the scene and four others were injured in a crash on Kamehameha Highway near Plantation Road this afternoon.

Four international tourists, who were injured in a three-car accident near Waialua Thursday afternoon, were treated for bruises and abrasions at Queen’s Medical Center and released.

Killed in the 3:30 p.m. accident on Kamehameha highway was a 61-year-old Waialua man who was driving 2004 gray Volkswagen. His name has not been released pending notification of relatives. Police said the driver was speeding.

Two men from Switzerland and a couple from Tokyo were treated at Queen’s Medical Center and released.

Police said the driver of the Volkswagen was traveling north on Kamehameha highway when he lost control of his vehicle two miles north of Paalaa Uka Pupukea Road, crossed the median line and hit the side of a 2012 silver Chevrolet sedan driven by a 21-year-old man from Switzerland going in the opposite direction. His passenger was a 22-year-old man from Switzerland.

The Volkswagen then split in two and the 61-year-old driver was ejected from the vehicle.

Parts of the Volkswagen then hit a 2012 gray Dodge van driven by a 32-year-old man from Tokyo. His passenger was a 27-year-old woman from Tokyo.

The two men from Switzerland and the couple from Tokyo were taken by ambulance to Queen’s in serious condition, treated and then released.

This was Oahu’s 49th traffic death, compared to 46 at the same time last year.
