Adolpho earns Big West weekly honors in volleyball

Hawaii senior middle Kalei Adolpho was named the Big West Defensive Player of the Week in volleyball while the Rainbow Wahine remained unranked in the coaches poll and at No. 30 in the Ratings Percentage Index announced Monday.

Adolpho had a combined 19 blocks for Hawaii (17-6, 9-3 Big West) which split its conference matches last week. She had two solo and seven block assists in the five-set loss to Long Beach State Friday, and two solo and eight block assists in the four-set win over Cal State Northridge Saturday.

In the AVCA Top 25, the Rainbow Wahine (17-6, 9-3 Big West) were unranked for a fifth consecutive week while Long Beach State (20-4, 10-0) moved up three spots to No. 20.  Hawaii picked up 10 points from last week but slipped from 28th to 31st in point total.

The top eight remained unchanged, led by three undefeated teams: No. 1 Stanford (24-0, 54 votes), No. 2 Washington (25-0, 6 votes) and No. 3 Florida State (24-0). Three of the four other teams who have defeated the Wahine this season are ranked in No. 10 Oregon, No. 18 UCLA and No. 19 Arizona State.

In the RPI, which is part of the formula used by the NCAA selection committee to seed the postseason tournament, Hawaii stayed at No. 30. Long Beach State moved ahead of the Wahine, going from 31 to 26.

Of the other teams that handed Hawaii losses, Oregon is No. 8, UCLA No. 17, Arizona State No. 32 and Cal State Northridge No. 38.

The Wahine have a bye week and next play on the road at UC Santa Barbara Nov. 21 and Cal Poly Nov. 22. Hawaii finishes the regular season with home matches against UC Riverside Nov. 28 and UC Davis Nov. 29
