State Securities Commissioner Ty Nohara has ordered concert promotion company P.B.C. Productions LLC, including Ferdinand C. Jacobe and Gina T. Carlos, to stop soliciting money from potential investors.
The cease-and-desist order issued Wednesday alleges that Jacobe, Carlos and P.B.C. Productions solicited investors among the local Filipino community to fund three Hawaii concerts while promising a return on investment of 10 percent to 40 percent between January 2012 and June 2013.
The state alleges that the company collected $666,000 from some 30 investors, many of whom remain unpaid. Jacobe and the company allegedly failed to disclose to investors that concert proceeds, as well as a portion of the new investments, were used to repay debts, the state said.
Jacobe and Carlos could not be reached for comment.
Pasha Hawaii adds L.A.-to-Oahu trips
Shipping company Pasha Hawaii said Wednesday it launched an LA-Hawaii Express vessel to provide the islands with "increased frequency and more capacity to support the growing Hawaii economy." The direct service means two vessels will leave Los Angeles every Wednesday and arrive in Honolulu every Sunday.
"This quick three-and-a-half day transit will benefit shippers, who will be able to fill orders on the mainland early in the week and, with Pasha Hawaii’s LA-Hawaii Express Sunday arrival, will be able to have goods ready for a Monday morning delivery anywhere on Oahu," the company said in a news release.
Pasha already operates the CA-Hawaii Express, providing a weekly service connecting Honolulu, Oakland, Calif., and Los Angeles, as well as the M/V Jean Anne, a biweekly roll-on/roll-off vessel service between San Diego and Honolulu, Kahului and Hilo.
Honolulu is No. 2 for expensive travel
Honolulu is the second-costliest U.S. city for summer travel.
Honolulu is second-only to Seattle as the most expensive U.S. city for summer travel, according to the new TripIndex Cities report released Wednesday by TripAdvisor.com.
The study calculates the cost of a three-day trip for two, including a stay in a 4- to 4.5-star hotel, organized tours or activities, taxi rides, and lunch and dinner each day.
In Seattle the total would be $2,080, and in Honolulu, the cost would be $2,046. Boston rounds out the top three at a cost of $1,931.
Hawaii ranks No. 30 in survey of states’ car-repair costs
Hawaii prices aren’t the highest for everything.
Drivers in the District of Columbia pay the most on average, about $467, when the check-engine light shows up on the dashboard, according to a study by CarMD.com.
The District of Columbia’s car repair costs in 2014 were followed by the $451 paid by drivers in Delaware, and third-ranked New Jersey, at $447.
Hawaii doesn’t appear on the list until No. 30, at $390, which is up 0.28 percent in cost, but in ranking, it is down from 23rd in 2013.
"Many factors contribute to overall repair costs such as vehicle make and age, parts availability and cost, and hourly labor rates that are often beyond a car owner’s control; however something everyone can control is how quickly they address check engine light issues when they arise," said David Rich, CarMD’s technical director, in a statement.
The least expensive states for car repairs, according to the study, are No. 51, Wyoming, $308; No. 50, Montana, $333; and No. 49, Nebraska, $340.
"CarMD’s data finds that the least expensive states have a higher percentage of ‘quick fix’ repairs that can be addressed in minutes, versus major repairs that require days in the shop, indicating drivers were likely more vigilant with addressing repair needs quickly," Rich said.
