A massive storm fueled by the remnants of Typhoon Nuri is bringing huge waves to north shores of Hawaii.

The storm hit Alaska’s sparsely populated Aleutian Islands over the weekend, but did not cause much damage to an area that is used to extreme weather.

Waves generated by the storm were expected to peak at 20 to 30 feet along north and west shores of Kauai, and north shores of Oahu, Maui and Molokai. West shores of Oahu could see 12 to 20 foot faces.

A high surf warning is posted until 6 a.m. Wednesday.

The Big Island is under a high surf advisory during the same period. The National Weather Service said north shores of Hawaii island could see 10 to 20 foot surf.

The waves will also create strong currents and could make navigating harbor channels dangerous.

On the mainland, the storm is bringing winter weather with temperatures 20 to 40 degrees below average.
