The state Department of Transportation announced crews next week will begin repairing  the Aiea pedestrian overpass, which had a 30-foot section torn down Oct. 16 by an oversized load on a truck trailer.

The work, starting Thursday night, will cause a shutdown of Aiea exits from the H-1 and Moanalua freeways from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. for four days, and officials anticipate completing the repairs by Nov. 8.

“We’re able to expedite the project so the children of Aiea Elementary School can use the bridge real soon,” said DOT spokeswoman Caroline Sluyter.

On Oct. 16, a Tibbitts Trucking dump truck hauling a forklift on a lowboy trailer struck and knocked down a 15-foot-6-inch high section of the overpass on the Moanalua Freeway Aiea offramp.
