Two leadership changes slated for Pearl Harbor
Two senior leadership changes at Pearl Harbor were announced by the Navy today.
Capt. Bret J. Muilenburg will be promoted to rear admiral and will become the new commander of Naval Facilities Engineering Command Pacific. Muilenburg is currently serving as senior engineer assistant to commander, U.S. Pacific Fleet Engineer, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.
Rear Adm. Fernandez L. Ponds will be assigned as commander of Expeditionary Strike Group Three in San Diego, Calif. Ponds is currently commander of Navy Region Hawaii and Naval Surface Group, MIDPAC.
Ponds, a native of Alabama, earned a bachelor of science degree from the University of Alabama in 1982.
Ponds commanded Amphibious Squadron Eight from November 2007 to May 2009 as Kearsarge Expeditionary Strike Group supporting operations in Iraq Afghanistan and Bangladesh.
Ponds commanded the destroyer USS Fife (DD 991) from October 2001 to February 2003.

Muilenburg, a native of Titusville, Fla., graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1984 and was commissioned into the Civil Engineer Corps.
