Health event offers diabetes information
Learn more about diabetes and take advantage of free health screenings, giveaways and product samples at "Malama ‘Ohana," 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 1 at Tamarind Park in Bishop Square.
The downtown event, sponsored by the American Diabetes Association, kicks off American Diabetes Month in Hawaii. Kalei Gamiao will entertain while participants undergo blood pressure checks, diabetes risk assessments, body mass index (BMI) readings and vision screenings.

Walk raises funds for St. Jude hospital
Honolulu will serve as one of 90 host cities for the St. Jude Give thanks. Walk on Nov. 17, a family-friendly event to raise money to help St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital continue to treat children fighting cancer and other deadly diseases.
Participants who register and raise $100 by Nov. 1 will be eligible to enter an early-bird drawing to win a Sony FlipCam. Registration is free.
The walk will take place at 8 a.m. at Magic Island at Ala Moana Beach Park. Local sponsors include KHON2, KRTR96, Chili’s Bar & Grill and Verizon Wireless. Volunteers from Tau Kappa Epsilon University of Hawaii-Manoa and Delta Sigma Theta Hawaii Alumni will be on site assisting with the event. To learn more and register, visit givethankswalk.org.
Donate medical equipment to MDA
MDA Hawaii is seeking donations of power and manual wheelchairs, pediatric wheelchairs, walkers, shower seats, Hoyer lifts and other medical equipment for use by people affected by neuromuscular diseases, including ALS.
The nonprofit agency helps more than 500 Hawaii families by providing medical care and social services free of charge.
