30 quarantined with norovirus on ship that docked in Lahaina
The cruise ship Star Princess, with 4,000 passengers and crew members, left Lahaina Thursday night following a four-day visit where about 30 passengers had to be quarantined in their cabins because they suffered from symptoms of norovirus, a state transportation official said.
The ship arrived in Honolulu on Monday from San Francisco and stopped at Kauai, Hilo and then Lahaina on Thursday.
Passengers began showing symptoms of gastrointenstinal illness before the ship arrived in Honolulu. Those who did not show symptoms were allowed to leave the ship, said Tim Sakahara, state Transportation Department spokesman.
About 30 passengers were quarantined in their cabins, said Sakahara.
Passengers were checked at least twice a day by the ship’s medical personnel for symptoms.
The cruise ship left for Mexico on Thursday night.
