A 19-year-old Kalihi man has been charged with the attempted robbery of a Ward Avenue arcade.
Toutaimana Downer, of Ahonui Street, was charged with first-degree robbery and kidnapping. He remained in police custody Saturday morning, unable to post $100,000 bail.
Police said Downer and an unknown man walked up to Winner’z Zone on Ward Avenue at 1:56 a.m. Thursday and forced a group of people standing outside, including a security guard, back into the business.
Downer’s accomplice pulled out a handgun, pointed it at the security guard’s head, and told the guard to take him to the safe, police said. The guard disarmed the gunman when he was distracted, police said. The gunman fled, but Downer was detained by the guard.
