Mistakenly open valve caused sewage spill, Coast Guard says

The state Health Department estimated that the Coast Guard cutter Morgenthau released 4,600 gallons of wastewater and sewage into Honolulu Harbor. A Coast Guard statement says the ship’s overboard discharge valve may have been left open from Friday night until Monday morning, when a ship’s officer noticed the discharge into the harbor.
