Driver stopped for littering is charged with car theft
A 22-year-old man stopped by police early Sunday morning for littering now faces the more serious charge of driving a stolen car.
According to police, Gil Guiang Jr., who does not have a local address, was stopped at 2:30 a.m. in Salt Lake for a traffic violation. During a routine check, officers learned that the car Guiang was operating had been reported stolen.
Guiang was charged Sunday with criminal littering and unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle. His aggregate bail was set at $25,000.
