Hall of Fame dinner benefits students
Hawaii Restaurant Association is inducting honorees into its 2012 Hall of Fame and are celebrating with a grazing dinner Monday at Hawaii Prince Hotel Waikiki. Food will be prepared by chefs Fred DeAngelo, Ed Kenney, Bob McGee, John Memering, Eddie Mizumo, Ronnie Nasuti and Lindsey Ozawa.
Inductees are Floyd and Doris Christenson (Mama’s Fish House), Lyle and Grace Guslander (Coco Palms Hotel), Hayashi family (Pagoda Hotel & Floating Restaurant), writer John Heckathorn, Tom Jones (Gyotaku), Harold and Nancy Manago (Manago Hotel), Harry Marn Sin Mau and Bat Moi Kam Mau (Char Hung Sut), Russell Siu (3660 on the Rise), Teruya family (Armstrong Produce) and Francis and Mary Tom and family (Wailana Coffee House).
Dinner starts 6 p.m. Tickets are $200 (tables available from $1,500) and benefit Kapiolani Community College culinary students. Call 944-9105.
Arboretum offers cooking classes
Lyon Arboretum is holding a Big Green Egg kamado grilling and smoking class (Nov. 3, $20) and a heart-healthy soup class (Nov. 10, $25).
Both classes run 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on site, at 3860 Manoa Road. Reservations required; call 988-0456.
Farmers market to showcase taro
Ala Moana Farmers Market hosts the Third Annual Taro Fest from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 3.
Taro advocate Daniel Anthony will pound poi and visitors can sign up to visit loi; shuttles will be provided. Ala Moana Farmers Market is held at the Sears second-floor parking lot. Call 388-9696.
