Man arrested for attempted murder after allegedly driving into crowd
A 29-year-old Aiea man is facing several counts of attempted murder after he allegedly drove his vehicle into a crowd of people in Chinatown, injuring two on Saturday morning, police said.
The man was arrested on Pauahi Street at 2:12 a.m. for investigation of first-degree attempted murder, two counts of second-degree attempted murder, operating a vehicle under the influence of an intoxicant, and fleeing the scene of a crash.
Police said two people, a 35-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman, sustained non-life threatening injuries about 1:34 a.m.
Nearby workers said the incident began with a fight in the parking lot at the corner of Nuuanu Avenue and Beretania Street. Remnants of the clash remained Saturday afternoon, including two panels of a wooden fence that were knocked over and tire tracks cutting across a dirt median, leading toward Nuuanu.
Witnesses identified the suspect, police said.
