Lifeguards rescue 2 at Hanauma Bay
Lifeguards rescued two snorkelers who ran into trouble Saturday about 60 yards offshore of Hanauma Bay.
At about 3 p.m., a swimmer told lifeguards that a woman in her 60s appeared to be in trouble and they brought her back to shore on a paddleboard, a Honolulu Emergency Services spokeswoman said. The lifeguards performed CPR on the woman, who regained consciousness and was able to speak.
About the same time, lifeguards responded to a man in the water who was not breathing. Lifeguards brought the man, in his 60s, back to shore and performed CPR on him, reviving his pulse.
Paramedics took the man in critical condition to the hospital. The woman was also taken to the hospital in serious condition.
The spokeswoman said the two patients are visiting from Asia and appear to be related.
Earlier Saturday, a man in his 50s was taken to the hospital in serious condition after nearly drowning in the ocean off Heeia Pier. The incident happened at 10:42 a.m. near the boat ramp.
