Luau benefits robotics team
Help the Waialua High School Robotics Team compete across the nation by purchasing a ticket to the Seventh Annual Dole Plantation Benefit Luau.
The luau is set for 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. May 8 at Dole Plantation. Along with the meal will be a demonstration by the team, entertainment and a silent auction.
The Waialua team has won the FIRST Robotics Competition Hawaii Regional, Northern Lights Regional and Dallas Regional.
Tickets are $40, available through April 30 via the school at 637-8200 or at Dole Plantation at 621-8408. The plantation is at 64-1550 Kamehameha Highway.

Learn how to turn locally grown food into value-added speciality products at the Maui Food Innovation Center at the University of Hawaii Maui College.
The college’s EdVenture continuing education program is offering four noncredit food-industry fundamental classes on food trends and the marketplace, food technology and product development, quality assurance and food safety, and manufacturing practices.
Classes run 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 4 p.m. April 29 and 30 at the Kahului campus, 310 W. Kaahumanu Ave. Classes are $39 each or $156 for the series. Space is limited. Call 808-984-3231.
» Speaking of the technology center, John Cadman took the top prize at Maui Food Technology Center’s 2014 Hawaii Food Products Recipe Contest held April 5 at the Maui County Ag Festival in Waikapu.
Cadman’s Ulu Hummus beat 15 other entries.
Second place went to KimAnn Magno for her lilikoi butter, and Joseph Kanahuna took third for his Papa Joe’s Chili Pepper Water Special.
Winners will receive consultation services toward getting their products into stores.
