Gear up for holidays at arboretum’s sale
Find one-of-a-kind dry and fresh holiday wreaths and other gifts from the garden at Lyon Arboretum’s annual Holiday Plant and Craft Sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
Nurseries will be selling colorful ti varieties, cactuses and succulents, anthuriums, heliconias, gingers, tillandsias and other bromeliads, Hawaiian plants and native ferns, vegetable and herb plants, and many other plants for homes and gardens.Ceramic pots and planters will be available for purchase, and activities are planned for keiki.
Arboretum volunteers from Hui Hana Hawai‘i will sell the holiday wreaths, including some made from live bromeliads. Also for sale: homemade ornaments, jams, jellies, Hawaiian honey, and oshibana crafts based on the Japanese art of making pictures with pressed dry flowers and plants.
Admission is free. A shuttle service to the arboretum at 3860 Manoa Road will have pick-up and drop-off points at the intersections of Poelua Street and Manoa Road, and Nipo Street and Manoa Road.

Pet ID fair will help keep furry pals safe
Pet owners whose dogs or cats are skittish about all the holiday hoopla may want to take advantage of the Pause for Paws pet ID fair Saturday at Petco in Ewa Beach.
The free event, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., is sponsored by Campbell High School and the Hawaiian Humane Society. There will be pet adoptions, custom ID tags, $10 on-site microchipping, games, prizes and more.
The Petco store is at 91-1065 Keaunui Drive.
Senior handbook adds caregiver info
The Elder Law Program at the University of Hawaii’s William S. Richardson School of Law hasupdated its handbook for seniors, providing valuable information for new caregivers uncertain about where to turn for help.
"Deciding What’s Next and Who in the World Cares?A Legal Handbook for Hawai‘i’s Older Persons, Families and Caregivers"is available free on Oahu through the Senior Helpline at the City and County of Honolulu’s Elderly Affairs Division.

The new edition of the handbook was prepared by law school professor James H. Pietsch and Hawaii Elder Law Program Administrator Lenora H. Lee, with funding from the U.S. Administration on Aging and the Elderly Affairs Division.
