Enter ornaments in drawing contest
Kids, it’s time to help us trim our pages with your holiday creations. Design an ornament for our “Keiki Kalikimaka” contest and you’ll have a chance at prizes of $100, $75 and $50 cash. A daily finalist will be printed on the cover of this section beginning Nov. 29. On Christmas Eve we’ll run all 25 finalists and announce the randomly chosen winners.
The contest is open to kids age 12 and younger. All entries must be between 5 and 10 inches wide. No 3-D entries (don’t glue on any objects). We must receive your drawing in the mail — no faxes or emails — by Dec. 18. Ornaments cannot be returned.
How bright are your lights?
Through December the Today section’s popular “Garden Party” feature will spotlight yards decked out for the holidays. We’ll also be putting together our annual Holiday Lights list.
If you go all-out for your outdoor holiday decorations, email a description of the display, your street address, phone number and a photo if possible to features@staradvertiser.com or mail to Honolulu Star-Advertiser, care of Holiday Lights, 500 Ala Moana Blvd., Suite 7-210, Honolulu, HI 96813. The deadline for submitting information is Dec. 2.
Guide compiles holiday happenings
December is so stuffed full of fun events and activities that the Today section will run a special Holiday Happenings guide Dec. 1 with listings for Santa encounters, craft fairs, night-life parties, mall activities, concerts, caroling, craft and cooking workshops, movies, stage productions, outdoor displays and more.
