A 37-year-old Lawai, Kauai, man died Monday after being hit by a white sport utility vehicle in Nawiliwili, police said.
The crash happened at about 1:45 a.m. Monday near the Kalapaki seawall along Nawiliwili Park on Kauai. The victim died at the scene, according to a news release from the Kauai Police Department.
The man’s name was not released pending notification of family. An autopsy will be performed.
Police said the SUV driver, 34, was in custody. He has not been charged.
2 sought for questioning in Pukahi case
Police are asking the public’s help in finding two men wanted for questioning in the disappearance of David Pukahi.
Pukahi was last seen in Haleiwa at about 1:10 p.m. April 6 with Gabriel Schimidt and possibly another man identified as Shawn Hardy. Police said they were seen leaving Emerson Road in a dark blue Chevrolet Silverado truck, and Pukahi has not been seen or heard from since.
Schimidt is 38 years old, 6 feet tall and 195 pounds, with brown hair and hazel eyes. Hardy is 44, 5 feet 8 inches and 165 pounds, and bald with blue eyes.
Autopsy set for hiker who died Sunday
An autopsy will be performed on a 74-year-old New Jersey man who collapsed and died Sunday while hiking the Lanikai Pillboxes trail.
The Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as Joseph Randleman of South Orange, N.J.
Paramedics took him to the hospital in critical condition Sunday afternoon. Emergency Medical Services reported the man was unresponsive when paramedics arrived.
