Hawaiian Electric Company has restored power to all customers affected by an outage Thursday afternoon in the Pearl Harbor area, according to a company spokesman.

The outage, which started at about 12:45 p.m., left the area without power until and crews restored it at about 5 p.m., HECO spokesman Darren Pai said. Crews worked till midnight with the U.S. Navy to restore power to parts of the base.

A "lightning arrester" — a device used to protect power equipment from a lighting strike — apparently caused the outage by short-circuiting, despite there being no such strike, Pai said. He did not have details on how many customers were affected.

Hawaiian Electric apologizes for the inconvenience and thanks its customers for their patience, Pai said.
