All lanes in both directions on Nimitz Highway near Alakawa Street have been reopened after being shut because of a broken water main Monday afternoon, according to the state Department of Transportation.

The water main break, initially reported as a fuel leak, forced drivers to take alternate routes, including Dillingham Boulevard, North King Street and the H-1 freeway.

The DOT tweeted out at about 3 p.m. that all Nimitz lanes were reopened, but that access to Pier 30 is being “impacted” by the break.
