Hawaii Pacific third baseman Dorian Acierto was named Pacific West Conference Defender of the Year in softball and Hawaii Hilo’s Emily Greene and Colleen Aubrey were named to the first team on Wednesday.
Acierto, a senior, finished the year with a .949 fielding percentage and 128 assists.
Greene, a senior first baseman, batted .380 with 10 doubles, nine home runs, 38 RBIs and a conference-leading 40 walks.
Aubrey, a senior outfielder, hit .425 with 45 runs, 13 doubles, four home runs and 26 RBIs.
Earning second-team PacWest honors were Brigham Young-Hawaii freshman third baseman Lizabelle Talataina, and Hawaii Hilo senior pitcher Vanessa Salinas and senior utility player Melanie Morelos.
Acierto was named to the third team along with Hawaii Pacific senior outfielder Toni Baysa.
Azusa Pacific sophomore third baseman Nicki Sprague was named Player of the Year for the second consecutive season and Dixie State senior Michelle Duncan was voted Pitcher of the Year.
HPU’s Lenz, Bode win conference honors
Hawaii Pacific’s Marko Lenz was named Pacific West Conference men’s tennis Newcomer of the Year and Hendrik Bode was voted Coach of the Year for the third consecutive season on Wednesday.
Lenz was voted first team in singles and doubles. He was 18-0 in singles and 18-3 in doubles with partner Maik Burlage.
A trio of Shark juniors — Thibaud Berland, Jaume Martinez‐Vich and Lenz — made the first team as well as Brigham Young-Hawaii senior Martin Chojnacki.
Seasiders senior Yevhen Zakharov and Sharks sophomore Maik Burlage were named to the second team.
Hawaii Hilo junior Kainoa Rosa was voted to the second team.
In doubles, Berland and senior Yann Renault of HPU, and BYUH seniors Yevhen Zakharov and Martin Chojnacki made the first team.
HPU’s Burlage and Lenz were voted second team.
Hawaii Hilo senior Kallen Mizuguchi and Rosa, and BYUH sophomores Peng Dai and Wei-Feng Lee were named to the third team.
The Shark men are ranked No. 1 in the country and will face Northwest Missouri State in the NCAA Division II national tournament May 13 in Arizona.
