Watershed gets $10.75M after all

DENNIS ODA / DODA@STARADVERTISER.COM
20070719-146 BSN WATERSHED Vernon Pico is supervisor of a small crew that keeps the Waiahole Irrigation System, which runs from Kahana Valley to Kunia, cleared of debris. He is checking on the switches that control Gate #31 (that's located in a tunnel drilled in the mountain). Since the gate is not responding to phone commands to open more (it diverts water to the Leeward and Windward areas of the island), he has to manually open the gate to let more water go through. This waterfall is near the entrance to the tunnel. The scenery is great. He is the subject of an upcoming "Hawaii at Work" feature. PHOTO BY DENNIS ODA. JULY 19, 2007.
