Police investigate woman’s strangulation
Hawaii County police have begun a murder investigation after an autopsy determined that the woman found in the ocean Tuesday off Kalapana had been strangled.
Police have not identified the woman. She is described as Caucasian, in her late 20s or early 30s, about 5 feet 4 to 5 feet 8 inches tall with a slim build and short brown hair, with the word "Veritas" tattooed on her lower back.

Body found in ocean that of Wahiawa man
A man’s body found in the ocean about a quarter-mile off Waiahole Valley on Wednesday has been identified as Domingo Claro, 51, of Wahiawa.
The cause and manner of Claro’s death is pending an autopsy scheduled tentatively for today, the city Department of Medical Examiner said.
Fishermen spotted Claro and called 911 at about 7:10 a.m. Wednesday, Honolulu Fire Department spokesman Capt. Terry Seelig said. Fire rescue personnel brought the body to shore at 8:45 a.m.
Auto thief nabbed after hitting another car
An attempted car theft in Kalihi went awry Thursday when the alleged thief ran into another vehicle.
According to police, a 67-year-old woman was loading her vehicle when a 49-year-old man drove away with it.
The stolen vehicle collided with another vehicle before the suspect drove away from the area. He was later located and arrested for unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, theft and criminal property damage.
No major injuries were reported.
