A 73-year-old woman was taken to Maui Memorial Hospital Wednesday after she lost control of her car and went down a 30-foot cliff at Makamakaole Gulch in northern Maui.

Maui fire officials said the incident occurred at 3:36 p.m. Thursday on Kahekili Highway.

The victim apparently failed to make a turn in the road on the Kahakuloa side of Makamakaole Gulch and went down a 20- to 30-foot cliff. Her car landed on its wheels on a resident’s driveway. She was transported to the hospital although her condition following the accident was not reported by Maui fire officials.
