An employee of a fast-food restaurant was charged with gambling-related offenses after police seized alleged gaming devices from the eatery.

Winnie Cheng was charged with possessing gambling devices and promoting gambling, according to the prosecutor’s office. Both offenses are misdemeanors.

Her initial appearance in District Court in Wahiawa is set for Jan. 14.

Police spokeswoman Michelle Yu said officers seized three "gaming devices" Monday, but declined to identify the type of machines confiscated.

KHON reported that Cheng manages the L&L Drive-Inn on Kamehameha Highway in Wahiawa. KHON also reported police seized sweepstakes machines from the restaurant Monday afternoon.

L&L’s main office in Honolulu said in a statement Tuesday that all of its restaurants are independently owned. The company will investigate the Wahiawa franchise.

In another gaming device case, police arrested and charged a 36-year-old Pearl City man at 11:31 a.m. Tuesday at a Waipahu store, 94-226 Leoku St. Police seized four alleged gambling devices at the store.

Russell Kiyono was charged with misdemeanor offenses: possession of a gambling device and promotion of gambling.

Kiyono, released on $200 bail, is scheduled to appear in District Court in Ewa on Jan. 14.
