Search for missing boater off Kailua-Kona is suspended
The Coast Guard has suspended its search for a boater missing since Thursday in waters off Hawaii island.
Ron Ingraham, 67, was believed to have been sailing alone when his 25-foot vessel began taking on water about 46 miles west of Kailua-Kona.
Responding to Ingraham’s 8:03 a.m. mayday call, Coast Guard and Navy crews conducted an intensive search covering 12,000 miles over the last four days.
Involved in the search were MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crews and HC-130 Hercules airplane crews from Coast Guard Air Station Barbers Point along with the crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Ahi and a Navy P-3 Orion crew from Marine Corps Air Station Kaneohe Bay, Oahu.
Ingraham had been traveling from Molokai to Lanai.
