U.S. Rep. Colleen Hanabusa has kept her fundraising advantage over former U.S. Rep. Charles Djou in their campaigns for Congress.
Democrat Hanabusa raised about $200,000 from late July through September for her re-election in urban Honolulu’s 1st Congressional District. She has raised about $1.1 million overall.
Djou, the Republican candidate, raised about $161,900 since late July. He has brought in about $573,000 overall.
Federal campaign finance reports filed Monday also show that Djou had slightly more cash on hand than Hanabusa at the end of September. He had about $431,600 while Hanabusa had about $396,450.
THE rematch between Hanabusa and Djou has not drawn the same national interest as their campaigns in 2010. Djou won a special election in 2010 to fill out the remainder of former U.S. Rep. Neil Abercrombie’s term after he resigned to run for governor. Hanabusa won the general election.
National interest groups, which advertised in Hawaii during the 2010 campaigns, have not done any independent spending on the race so far this year.
